The Varsity is presenting two performances of “The Banana Slip,” a play by AJ Rice, a film and theater writer, director and producer based in Southern Illinois. The play is a fast-paced, action comedy that features farce with a local flare.
Admission is free to each performance: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 22, and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23.
The play tells the story of campaign season in a small Midwestern town, and with the financial resources drying up, the previous mayor, the current mayor and Mrs. Jenkins must do whatever it takes to stop crime. However, when a fired-up citizen decides to enter the race, the stakes become even higher, and it becomes a fight against time and crime.
Admission is free but it is recommended that you register in Eventbrite. Donations are welcome.
This production is made possible in part through a grant from the Illinois Arts Council.
