An exhibit featuring the work of Lisa Tolnai opened on Friday, Nov. 8.
Lisa says she has been an artist all her life, but in the past few years, she has dedicated more of her time to it. While growing up, she was surrounded by artistic family members and art. Lisa has a fulltime, non-art-related job, but she strives to make art a part of her everyday life. Creating gives her a sense of fulfillment, and she loves it when others connect with what she has created.
This exhibit, “Cats on Classic Chairs” Series came out of a desire to have a cat again.
“After I started painting the series, I convinced my husband to adopt a cat. One cat led to another, then another, and we now have three cats, and I have plenty of inspiration,” Lisa says. “My favorite furniture pieces come from Charles & Ray Eames, George Nakashima, Finn Juhl, and the list goes on. Besides cats (and furniture), I also draw my inspiration from nature. I have created landscapes of popular Southern Illinois spots and a few locations farther away. I am open to pet portrait commissions.”
